☆楽曲に込めた想い☆

Γειά σας!（ヤーサス！＝ギリシャ語で、こんにちは！）

この曲を作ったきっかけは、昨年夏のギリシャへの里帰りの帰路、
アテネから台北への機内（ドバイ経由）で隣に座ったご夫妻が、
メルボルン在住のギリシャ系オーストラリア人で、
「It's GREEK to me.＝（ギリシャ人のように）理解できないよね」っという、
ギリシャ人の特性を理解できない人たちが、ギリシャを揶揄したセリフについて、
「オレ達には、『ギリシャを分からない奴らの方が、理解できない』よな！（笑）」と
アツく話し込んだエピソードにあります。

曲名のMati（マティ）とは、
ギリシャで広く親しまれている目玉模様の「魔除けのお守り」です。
古代の船には、幸運な航海を先導するようにと船首に「目」が描かれていました。
ギリシャではマティ、英語圏ではイーブルアイ、トルコではナザールボンジュウとして知られています。
人生の様々な災い、妬み等の邪悪な視線から身を守ってくれると言われ、
ガラスの目玉が邪視を跳ね返し、割れた時やヒビの入った時は、あなたの身代わりに災いや嫉妬を受け止めてくれた時と言われています。

HOPEは希望を意味しますが、ギリシャを「米国」のように漢字で書くと、
「希国」であることもあり、タイトルにしました。

2番の歌詞は、2018年10月に起こった、台湾での痛ましい列車事故のニュースを知り、
「僕を救ってくれた台湾の友人達や、彼等の家族のために、何かできないだろうか」と思い立ち、
東京から台北行きの飛行機の中で、書き上げました。

台湾中部の「台中市」にある「HOPE TENNIS ACADEMY」で、よくテニスをしているのですが、

お世話になったフランス人コーチが、新天地に旅立つことを知り、彼の送別会で歌いたいなあ、という、

人々の「人生の門出」を祝う曲でもあります。

ギリシャと同じ赤土のテニスコートに、毎日毎日、水を撒き続け、選手のために、黙々と日々、裏方に徹してくれている、コートキーパーのみんなへの感謝の思いを込めつつ、「恵みの雨」が降ってくれないかな？という、彼等の願いも表現しました。

列車事故で犠牲になられた方や、その家族や友人の悲しい気持ちなどを、洗い流してくれる
「優しい雨」を願いながら、歌ってみました。

台湾は、湿度が高い以外は、僕にとって、ギリシャを感じさせてくれる特別な国なので、
両国の友好も願い、一つの曲にしてみました。

最後に、2020年開催の東京オリンピックのギリシャ選手団、
そして、世界中で暮らすギリシャ人とギリシャ系移民を応援するとともに、
この曲を聴いてくれた人が「ギリシャファン」になってくれたら、と想っています。

THEME OF THIS SONG

The inspiration behind making this song was the journey back to my hometown in Greece in 2018.
On the airplane from Athens to Taipei (via Dubai),
I met my great Greek Australian friends who lived in Melbourne.
We started talking about many stories about Greek.

“Why does everyone say ‛It's Greek to me!’? lol”

What is the song title “Mati”?

It is a good-luck charm with an eye-like pattern that is popular in Greece.
Ancient Greek ships had an “eye” on the bow to lead the lucky voyage.
This is known as “Mati” in Greece, “Evil eye” in English-speaking countries, and “Nazarbonju” in Turkey.

It is said that it will protect you from evil gazes, such as various disasters and grudges in your life.
When a glass eyeball breaks, it is a sign of protection from disaster for you.

Why is the song title “HOPE”?

The second lyrics of the song are about the news of a painful train accident in Taiwan that happened in October 2018.
I thought “What can I do for my Taiwanese friends and their families who have saved me?”
I wrote it on the plane from Tokyo to Taipei.

I often played tennis at HOPE TENNIS ACADEMY in Taichung City, central Taiwan.
When I heard that my French coach who was my dear friend was moving to Vietnam, I wanted to sing at his farewell party.
So, this song is also to celebrate people's “start of life”.

I also express feelings of gratitude to everyone who keeps feeding water every day on the tennis court with the same red soil as Greece and devotes themselves to supporting the players every day.
“Will it rain?” I expressed their wishes.

I sang for the victims of the train accident and washing away the sad feelings of their families and friends, wishing for a “welcome rain”.

Taiwan is a special country that makes me feel like Greece, except for the high humidity.
I wish for friendship between the two countries, so I tried to create it in one song.

Finally, I would like to cheer up the Greek Olympic team at the Olympics, the Greeks and Greek immigrants living around the world.

I hope that people who are listening to this song will become “Greek fans”.
